Week One Task

Activity:Report on your present or previous experiences in the workplace. How best would you describe how your organization (or an organization of your choice) learnt.

Anne

I don't have many experience in workplace. Referring to learning organization, I want to mention my working experience as a teaching assistant in our School - Beijing Normal University at Zhuhai (BNUZ).

Why I think it is a good example of learning organization:

Firstly, the school has its well established teaching style as it is a branch campus of Beijing Normal University, while it still digs into innovative methods to capture the newly educational trends and embrace change. The dean supports teachers use ICT in teaching as a response to the increasing demand of information society. Teachers and students have access to the Internet so that they enable to get the news inside and outside school and exchange ideas with each other. Moreover, teachers can offer instant online feedback to others pedagogy to make improvements. The faculties meet regularly to discuss what have been done and what could be enhanced. They work together to keep innovation.

Secondly, for the students, ICT implementation encourage students' learning motivation. On one hand, ICT creates an open environment for collaborative study. Students can develop their communication skills via social media meanwhile broaden horizon when they are exposure to others opinions. On the other hand, the classroom is extended, which means students enable to further the collaborative study when they are at home or even on their journey.

Apart from the above, the school makes changes in management strategies. Some undergraduate students are recruited to be executive and manager because they are supposed to be more sensitive to innovation. Besides, the partnership with parents also taken into consideration, the school encourages parents to build close relationship with teachers and their suggestions have great impact on school's decision.

Based on my previous experience, I would like to choose hujiang.com as an example of online language study organization. It is not like the real organizations, it’s a website which build a virtual learning language learning environment. Everyone who registers and log in as a member of this website, has its own responsibility for this virtual environment. Members who upload the resources and share with others can earn the virtual money , and then they can use this money to buy other resources or have online courses. This organization is becoming more and more mature, worked like a real community.

CC (XIE YUCHEN)

I have graduated from Zhejiang University of Technology, which is an undoubtedly learning organization in terms of 5 principles from the book “Schools that learn”. We have attended different kinds of courses: compulsory, elective, professional, minor and so on. Besides, school provides clubs that help us adapt new life in university, and some activities or talks taught us how to equip ourselves to apply greater jobs and develop a good time-managing skill.
Personal mastery:
As far as I am concerned, our school encourages us to conquer ourselves and challenge the difficulties. When I was a freshman, the instructor asked us to attend various classes and activities to make new friends and develop colorful college life. Once I was shy to attend the Ping Pong competition, then he encouraged me to attend and challenge myself. At last, I got the second place in this match. I felt more confidence than ever before. Of course, when school conducted a staff game, he attended with passion no matter the results good or not, he would be proud of personal mastery.
Shared vision:
In my impression, the teachers and staffs are all nice and united, but they would be competitive when they were evaluated to become greatest staff in students’ perspective. They almost wanted to become great teachers from students’ heart. On the other hand, they all feel proud of our university and contribute to our school.
Mental models:
Some of us students feel surprised about the ability of our instructors, when someone among us had problems about learning and life in school, they all had an insight into our moods and relevant learning factors. So people in this organization have developed awareness of attitudes and perceptions.
Team learning:
Some of the staffs always got together to discuss about things they want to learn or they need to learn, equipping themselves to adapt to this high-tech world. So some of us were invited to make a speech teaching them about skills and operation.
Systems thinking:
I remember that our tutors often visited and learnt other great schools to compare and mutual learn from each other with groups. After one visit, they would hold a meeting discussing about how to enhance the facilities and improve quality of education. I supposed that because one of our tutors told us a good news that they planned to build a room with high technology and each staff and student need to entry by special cards.

I want to introduce some of my university--Zhejing University of Technology. For ICT learning and teaching, ZJUT has its own system for the whole operating. There is an online system named -"Yuchuangwang" to support all school members share resources, such as helping students get course materials, notices from teachers and so on. Students will also state their opinions about the teachers at the end of the semesters through the system.Teachers can learn from each other through the system by watching others' courses. There is a specific organization named Modern Educational Technology Research Institution, supporting the ICT implementing for the school and the faculty and doing professional research in the area of using ICT, designing educational software, etc.. This institution provides quality support for the whole school using modern technology software and ICT. Teachers are required to participate the meeting held by METRI to exchange new thoughts about teaching, new technology can be used in teaching and so on.
